The importance of Vaseline to minimize chaffing in salt water!
5 West Coast Swimmers participated in the Whyalla Open Water Swim on Sunday 21st of March held in the Whyalla Marina. The event is held annually over a distance of 1600m, comprising two laps of a circuit marked out by bouys, managed by officials from Swimming SA with on water support provided by the Whyalla Surf Life Saving Club.
For each athlete this was their first official open water event. Braden Holley (12) completed the distance in 30 minutes and twenty seconds being the fastest of the five competitors. Both Sharni Blacker (13) and Lucy Siviour (12) came over the line together, finishing in 32 minutes and three seconds. Jade Blacker (13) was close behind in a time of 32 minutes and 18 seconds and Lucy Siviour (12) just two seconds behind this.
The swimmers thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to race over a longer distance in the ocean and are looking forward to further opportunities to race under more varied conditions. What a great accomplishment for these young swimmers!
